[d-star] redcross meet on saturday 5th

erik,

i am working with jerry, n0mr, on a ongoing bassis. the network that you
refer to is about 3 years behind and has had almost no updating or maintance
work done . since then the backyard nodes have expanded and now are the
most reliable thing we have out here. a network needs a lot of attention and
use to remain viable and ready for the big one. i have a lot of background
in reliability and started with good stuff and now have almost 2 years of
history of up time. the solar is for backup and the telpac which had 59
users last month is our route to the internet from packet. your test last
year found the problem with high usage in a short time causing lockup of a
kantronics 9612+ with the latest software. that was the monitor setting was
on rather than off. that is corrected and unless we have another test with
the heavy use it should work ok.

i am installing another generator that will run on propane with a reserve to
last more than two weeks to keep the house and radios available . i have
enough spares to put a portable packet set together to use for setting up
and testing the hospital system that is in progress. the new hams to run
the equipment, getting the equipment out of the boxes and running and
teaching packet to these newbies to help get this new network going. at the
same time the integration of mobile voice and packet to extend the range and
an instalation on a new tower for dual packet will add to the mix. homeland
defense is very active with this and the hospitals are happy to have our
help.

with the last 2years of setting up my equipment to work i can share this
knowledge and make our outback ready . i already have been working with
jerry and many more of the "new experts" and hope to finish this soon.

thanks for listening.
