[d-star] ID1s and repeaters

Dan at Radio City bought 10 ID1s and got two repeaters. He is hoping Anoka
steps up to the plate for one. I think we might see one (TwinsLAN etc) for
software development....It might be good if TwinsLAN bought an ID-1?

Subject: [d-star] This is being sent from 1299.7 mhz :)

Hello.

This email is being sent from 1299.7 mhz via an RP2D on loan to me
from Greg Kitchak!

I'm sitting in my car with my notebook, an inverter, and my id1
set up to use data mode... being careful not to use a web browser
that connects me to inappropriate/commerical content. That will
be a big challenge for people wanting to play with the real
Internet.

Greg Kitchak, N0GEF, was a huge help in getting things going today.
My plan was to install the 1.2ghz antenna myself on my tower with
his help from the ground but I've never done that before with a
side-arm and felt very nervous up there. So Greg took care of
it for me. Since Greg's machine is in service and he wasn't using
his RP2D at the moment, he loaned it to me while I wait for icom to
send me mine. I connected it up this evening.

The setup is a real compromise with 60ft LDF4-50a 1/2" and 7 ft
of LMR 400 on the opossite end of a polyphaser. So there's loss :)

The 1.2GHz antenna is not as high as my others - it's at 50 ft.
I'm just in my driveway right now but I'm eager to learn what sort
of range we have.

I configured myself an entry in my gateway server. At this moment,
my gateway server is a lone wolf :)

Just in typing this note, I notice latency sometimes.

If anybody has an Id1 and would like to be configured to use my
RP2D, please send me a private note and I'll add you.

I don't claim to be an expert but here are some settings I used.

Freq 1299.7
UR K0UW
RPT1 K0UW A
RPT2 K0UW G

On my notebook, I configured the IP I set up -- and for folks who
want to play, I need to add an entry for you first.

For netmask I used 255.255.255.0
For gateway I used 10.0.0.1
name server 10.0.0.1

As far as I know, the setup seems tolerant because I literally made
some of that stuff up. I'll go search for real answers later but
I'm just excited it's working at all!

Erik
Bed time. Ding.
