First, it turns out Icom shipped the wrong parts to me. I have an
RP2V (1.2 ghz voice) but no RP2D. That will be worked next week.
Secondly, I got my registration information for the on-line d-star class
for gateway administrator students. I plan to go through that course soon.
After taking this class, they send the gateway software and I can connect
in. There is an open question here -- it is not at all easy or fun to
change the static IP address associated with a d-star gateway at this time.
Since I plan to change sites, the remote site may not have the same
static IP available (or even one at all :). However, it is possible to
use vpn to serve a static IP to a remote Internet-connected system. I'll
research this too. Unfortunately, I don't yet have a site in mind to
locate to. I've had two potential offers (1 short term and 1 long term) but
both were quite far away from where I live. I guess maybe I'm being a stick
in the mud but I'd like to operate easily from my house so I can play with
this stuff :) :)
Finally, the HOPE is to finally get my 2m duplexer tuned today. To where?
I have no idea. Every choice annoys a different person so I'll consult with
the other d-star folks on a plan and post it here. We'll shift it if we
get complaints. It's really a question of who will be annoyed least :)
It's a bummer because there are at least one or two seemingly free 2m pairs
but it's hard to wrestle them free. Using the plan that d-star owners
elsewhere are using annoys packet folks here. Using the SNP pair alarms
the frequency coordinator. Using a pair coordinated to someone else that
is known to be off the air isn't advised. So we'll see how I go here :)
I know Doug is working on this situation for 2-meters so I see this problem
as temporary.
PS: I set in a coordination application for Output: 1286.0 / Input: 1274.0.
I don't yet have any equipment besides the repeater itself for this pair
so it will be a bit.
